National Health Insuranceis not optional but mandatory.

All international students, once their Alien registration is completed, are automatically enrolled in the National Health Insurance.
Failure to pay the National Health Insurance premium may result in the inability to extend your visa, so please make sure to pay it every month.
※ Mandatory enrollment in National Health Insurance for international students is in effect as of March 1, 2021

National Health Insurance? National Health Insurance is part of South Korea's social security system and falls under public health insurance.
By paying monthly premiums, individuals can avail themselves of benefits when visiting hospitals or seeking medical care.

  • Insurance fee : around 75,000KRW/month
    • The average monthly insurance premium is approximately 150,000 won, but International students with D-2 and F-4 visas receive a 50% discount, paying around 75,000 won.
    • Insurance premiums are billed by the National Health Insurance Corporation
    • Individuals with an annual income exceeding 3.6 million won, including research funds, are excluded from the insurance premium discount benefit and must pay around 150,000 won per month.
    • Insurance premiums may be subject to an annual increase.
  • Benefits
    • Cost reduction when using hospitals, including dental and traditional Korean medicine clinics.
    • Free health check-up once every two years (For the year 2024, free for those born in even-numbered years).
  • Consequences of Non-payment
    • Unable to extend the visa.
    • If not paid by the deadline, forced collection may occur, including seizure of assets such as real estate, vehicles, and deposits.
  • Payment Deadline : Pay the next month's insurance premium in advance by the 25th of each month
  • How to pay
    • Payment notification will be sent to the address provided during visa application. Confirm the account number and amount on the payment notice and proceed with the payment.
    • Payment methods include automatic debit, bank transfer, electronic payment, in-person payment, and collection portals.
    • If you wish to receive payment notifications via email, text messages, etc., you can apply for it with the National Health Insurance Corporation.

Even if you have enrolled in the National Health Insurance, significant personal expenses may arise in the event of hospitalization or surgery.
Therefore, it is recommended to additionally subscribe to comprehensive medical insurance (private insurance)alongside National Health Insurance.

Private Insurance Insolvency medical expense insurance refers to private insurance that is subscribed separately through insurance companies.
It's not compulsory, but we recommend that you sign up together because you may receive additional benefits in addition to the national health insurance.

    • Enter the website www.isamaster.co.kr/jbnu Click the ”Insurance Application" and fill the form.
      # please choose the course Correctly (undergraduate or exchange student)
    • Check the woori bank Virtual account number and premium after fill the form.
    • Transfer the insurance premium to woori bank Virtual account number given by website.
      # If you don't transfer the insurance premium then you will not be able to sign up.
    • After transfer the insurance premium, You could download your certificate in 1~3days.
  • Insurance fee : (1-year) 63,000KRW / (6months) 44,000KRW
  • How to Claim : Pay the hospital expenses upfront and then submit the necessary documents to the insurance company for reimbursement. After the claim is processed, you will receive a partial refund of the expenses.
